Epic Games has unveiled more gameplay for Fortnite‘s upcoming limited time mode, High Stakes, that’ll have players performing heists to become the ultimate victor, among other things.
Fortnite‘s High Stakes event has been previously teased, but now we finally have our first look at the upcoming event. In High Stakes players will be offered several challenges themed around casino/gambling. The main biggest edition is the Getaway mode that’ll task players to find four safes scattered around the map in supply drops.
In these safes are Llama Jewels which the player will have to grab and book it to the extraction zone without dying. There’ll be several teams of four dropping in, so not only will you have to watch your back, you’ll also have to make sure no one else is getting away with your prize jewels.

After first teasing the High Stakes event, and later the Wild Card outfit in Fortnite, Epic Games has now shown off the first gameplay of the new Getaway limited-time mode.
As for the challenges, there’ll be three in total, the first is winning ten Getaway matches that’ll award players 5,000 XP, the second is dealing 500 damage to Jewel carriers with a spray being the reward for this challenge.
Finally, Fortnite players are challenged to picking up the Jewel in five different Getaway matches. This challenge awards players with a unique skydiving trail which throws cash everywhere. Once all three of the challenges are complete, players are rewarded with a crowbar skin for their Pickaxe.
The update will also come with a new weapon, the Grapple. This weapon will allow players to quickly zip across the map much like the Jump Pads and Jetpack, what’s more, the grapple is pretty darn quiet.
Unfortunately, the Grapple has only 10 charges and very short range, so it’ll likely help players quickly get out of a sticky situation, or up to higher levels of buildings much quicker.
The final addition is the Wild Card skin which will be launching in the store. It’ll offer four different mask variants which you can see below:
The full patch notes for Fortnite‘s High Stakes update (Patch 5.40) are expected to land sometime today. When they do, we’ll update this post.
