20th Century Fox’s fourth installment into The Predator series, confusingly called The Predator, has managed to leap to the top of the weekend box office pulling in an impressive estimated $24 million.
While it may be perched happily at the top spot, the movie has already had its fair share of controversy, not only that the movie released in over 4,000 theatres and had the worst debut for a live-action movie opening in that many locations. Yeesh.
Falling down to second is last weekend’s frontrunner, The Nun, which smashes another franchise record this time for dipping 66% a franchise-worst for second-week revenue at $18.2 million. Overall the movie is however on track to gain over $100 million at the box office.
Debuting in third place is A Simple Favour, which gained an estimated $16 million, which is impressive considering how actually trash the book is. Fortunately, it seems the movie doesn’t follow the same path as it’s gaining positive reviews from both critics and cinema-goers.
Another new entry lands in fourth place, Studio 8’s White Boy Rick, which pulled in an estimated $8.8 million. In fifth place is the Summer hit, Crazy Rich Asians pulling in $8.7 million over the weekend totaling to an estimated $150 million domestically.
The only other new entry into the top ten is Unbroken: Path to Redemption which debuted with an estimated $2.2 million.
