The first poster for Hellboy has arrived and it has one glaring surprise, our young gentleman from the underworld has horns.

Anyone who has read the Mignola comics or watched DelTorro’s film adaptations of Hellboy know that his horns are kind of a big deal. In a rebellious attempt to shrug off his demon-prince duties, the big red demon hunter usually keeps them filed down. The first poster for the upcoming Hellboy reboot, however, shows a Hellboy that seems to have openly embraced them. Also, could that sword be Excalibur??

EW exclusively revealed the poster a few days ago and it has enough fire and brimstone to get any Hellboy fan excited. The poster (featured below) shows the demonic hero surrounded by flames, carrying a giant sword, rocking a nice set of horns. While it is unknown at this time what the significance of the sword is, there is a short period in the comics where Hellboy wields the legendary Excalibur. It might not be a long shot to think that perhaps that fabled weapon might have some importance in the upcoming film.

Hellboy is being directed by Neil Marshall and will see David Harbour assuming the role of Hellboy. Other familiar faces include Ian McShane as Hellboy‘s adoptive father, Daniel Dae Kim as the living-dead marine captain, Ben Daimio, and Sasha Lane as Alice Monaghan, who I assume will be the film’s love interest, but so far all we know is shes a human that Hellboy rescued from some fairies.

The Hellboy reboot will be an adaptation of a specific 3-part arc from the comics that sees the demon hunter battling Mila Jovovich’s Nimue the Blood Queen. The Blood Queen is an ancient sorceress that has a nasty grudge against humanity, so obviously it falls on Big Red to take her down. During an interview with EW this past March, Mignola was quoted saying that the film has been “very faithful” to the aforementioned story arc it draws from.

em>Hellboy will have a panel during the upcoming New York Comic Con which will take place on the Javits Center’s main stage at 11 a.m. EST. The panel will include all of the above cast (minus Jovovich) and also see Mike Mignola himself make an appearance. While nothing has been said YET, it is certainly a possibility that we might get our first trailer for the upcoming film.

Hellboy is set to release on April 12, 2019, be sure to check out the sexy new poster below!
