Netflix has announced that, after just two seasons, Danny Rand – also known as Iron Fist – won’t be returning for a third season to the streaming platform, however it may not be the last time we see him.
In a statement to Deadline, both Netflix and Marvel revealed that Iron Fist won’t be getting a third season.
“Marvel’s Iron Fist will not return for a third season on Netflix. Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew, and showrunners,” Marvel and Netflix added. “We’re thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership we’ve shared on this series. While the series on Netflix has ended, the Immortal Iron Fist will live on.”
This is the first Netflix-run Marvel series that has been canceled and gives us little hope for another series of Defenders, however, Marvel’s statement of “While the series on Netflix has ended, the Immortal Iron Fist will live on.” could suggest that he may return if Defenders gets another season.
Alternatively, it could mean that Iron Fist will be appearing on Disney’s own streaming service which is expected to launch in 2019. Disney’s streaming service already has a Loki and Scarlet Witch series in the works, however, these are extensions of the MCU, not the universe which Netflix has created.
As for the other Netflix/Marvel series, Jessica Jones is set to get a third season, as is Luke Cage – though this hasn’t been confirmed by either party just yet. As for Daredevil, season 3 is set to begin on October 19. Finally, The Punisher is also set to get a second season.
