While fans rejoiced to hear that Will Smith and Martin Lawrence were finally moving forward with the Bad Boys 3 movie, I doubt most were OK with the title they chose.
According to Production Weekly, the upcoming Bad Boys film will be called “Bad Boys for Lif3.” A title that is just as painful to read, as it was to type.
Aside from the fact that they totally stole our branding!! #n3rdabl3washerefirst It would have been better if they just kept it as “Bad Boys for Life”. The addition of the “3” for a movie title just takes away from the seriousness the series tends to maintain. Obviously, both Smith and Lawrence bring their own style of comedy to the films, but the title doesn’t need to be involved in that.
Since the announcement that there even would be a third Bad Boys movie, the film has gone through several changes. From continuous pushed back release dates to the exiting of the films initial director, Joe Carnahan, after which time Martin Lawrence’s involvement was even called into question.
David Guggenheim and late director Joe Carnahan both attempted to pen the script for the new Bad Boys installment, but neither took off. The latest iteration of the script comes from Kevin Hart’s The Wedding Ringer writer Chris Bremner. Apparently, he was the only one that found a balance between the series’ action and laughter that neither previous script could achieve.
With Carnahan’s exit, Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi have taken over directing the film. The pair has worked on FX’s Snowfall. With production of the movie set to begin soon, one can only hope the creative team behind this will be fired or realize how ridiculous that title is. What are your thoughts?
