Today Bulkhead Interactive announced that their old-school shooter, Battalion 1944, will be launching out of Early Access in 2019 with the game’s biggest update yet.

Having been in Early Access for a little over nine months, Derby-based Bulkhead Interactive have been working tirelessly to develop a shooter which strips back all of the bells and whistles from modern shooters and kicking it back to old school.

After a bit of a rocky launch, the developers have been taking player feedback on board to further development. With two major updates under its belt as well as several quality of life updates, Battalion 1944 is set to launch out of Early Access in “early 2019”.

This means that the developers will be hard at work with the launch release and therefore the game will see no more public game updates. This doesn’t mean that they’re taking a load off as the game’s launch will see the biggest update the game has ever seen. This update will include an overhauled UX, tons of additional content, and more goals for players to aim for.

“Thanks to all the testing and feedback, we’re confident that the game has really now found its identity. We can’t wait to share it with all of you, but for now, it’s a secret!”

Fans of the game are likely curious as to what’s happening with those planned pre-launch updates? Well, Bulkhead has revealed that they’re compiling all of these updates into one big release as it allows the developers to spend more time on new features and systems ahead of release.

“We will be running small tests closer to release with our dedicated Discord community to gauge reactions and feedback. We will also release more information on our official Discord closer to the time,” they said.

Finally, Bulkhead addressed the news that Square Enix, the publisher behind Battalion 1944 and their previous game, The Turing Test, has purchased a share of the company. This investment will allow the developers to push more into the game’s marketing around launch, as well as focus from the Square Enix team.

In addition, Bulkhead is now working on a brand new IP for Square Enix. Details are pretty thin right now other than the news that a small three-person team is in pre-production and planning phases of the title.
