Orion Pictures has announced the release date for Aubry Plaza’s Child’s Play reboot along with a brand new poster.
The reboot of the killer doll that no one really asked for has received a new poster and release date. That’s right on June 21, 2019 fans will finally be able to see the long-awaited movie starring toys… Toy Story 4… Oh, sorry, I meant Child’s Play which hilariously releases on the same day. Whether this was intentional or not, it’s a brilliant move.
While this story of a living doll will go head to head with the story of other… living dolls, it certainly isn’t the family-friendly movie I can only hope some will get confused with. Judging by the poster they’re not leaning too hard on a “fresh take” considering the title looks near identical to the original film. On top of that, the box art looks remarkably familiar as well, the difference here being for some reason they chose to go with a doll named “Buddi” instead of the original’s “Good Guy”.
To further distance themselves from being a 1:1 remake, the origin of Chucky is changing, for the worse in my opinion. Instead of a doll being possessed by a serial killer, this new iteration is going with a “robot-like doll” that is programmed for evil. Yep, it’s as stupid as it sounds. So really, this is more like a Terminator origin story than it is a Chucky reboot. The most mind-blowing part is they got two pretty decent actors to put their names behind this, Aubrey Plaza (Criminal Minds, Parks and Recreation, Legion), and Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta, This Is Us, BoJack Horseman).
While I, among others I’m sure, remain skeptical, this movie is happening whether we like it or not. Child’s Play releases June 21, 2019. Be sure to check out the poster below and let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
