Following news that they were considering the remasters Electronic Arts have announced that the original Command and Conquer and its alternate reality spin-off, Command and Conquer: Red Alert, are both getting HD remasters. This is no doubt due to the success of other classic RTS remasters, such as Age of Empires, and so now Electronic Arts are jumping on the bandwagon.
The original Command and Conquer was released in 1995 to critical acclaim, with Red Alert receiving an equally warm reception the year after. I may have sounded negative in my introduction, but it seems that Electronic Arts are doing their best to ensure that this HD remaster is actually good.
Firstly, the remaster is being developed by Petroglyph Games, which includes many prominent former members of Westwood Studios, the company that made the original Command and Conquer games. Secondly, both the Command and Conquer and Red Alert remasters will come as a single bundle, which will also include the expansion packs for both games.
Command and Conquer co-creator Joe Bostic has also reached out to the community, asking for any ideas of new features players would want to see in the remaster.
Overall, this is good news for the RTS genre, which has grown rather stale as of late. There is little word on the intended release date for the remaster since development has not even begun yet, so watch this space for more information!
