Muggles beware, the wizards are here! That’s right; the veil between our world and J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World has grown ever thinner thanks to a newly released trailer. The veil itself is set to burst wide open when Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is unleashed worldwide in 2019.
Although the trailer shows very little of what Harry Potter: Wizards Unite actually has in store for players, it certainly sets the tone — the Wizarding World is threatened, mass exposure is imminent, and the Ministry needs your help. Wands out everyone, this could get interesting.
Co-developed by WB Games and Niantic, this augmented reality mobile game is set to cast quite a spell on its players. Niantic is of course, for those who didn’t know, the developers of the wildly popular title Pokémon Go, which launched in 2016. This title will be published under the Portkey Games umbrella, a label dedicated to all Wizarding World related games, which already includes Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery which launched earlier this year. A label which, if you ask me, implies there could be more games in our futures… but I’m not that skilled in the art of divination.
Players are being encouraged to enlist themselves as part of the newly formed “Statute of Secrecy Task Force”. From what can gather witches and wizards across the Wizarding World will have to battle against a tide of magical mishaps.
The Wizarding Word must unite to prevent these events from bubbling up into muggle view as players “explore real-world surroundings to unravel a global mystery, cast spells, and encounter fantastic beasts and iconic characters along the way.”
While this may not have been the announcement that some of us had been waiting for *cough cough*, we can’t argue that magical experience is afoot. So if you haven’t checked out the trailer yet, why wait Accio Trailer!
