At X018 this weekend Microsoft confirmed the rumors that it is to acquire Fallout: New Vegas developer, Obsidian Entertainment. They also revealed that they plan to acquire Wasteland developer, InXile Entertainment.
Last month rumors surfaced to suggest that Microsoft was looking into acquiring Obsidian Entertainment as part of their focus on creating new first-party titles. At X018 this year, Microsoft confirmed this news.
In addition, Wasteland 2 developer, InXile Entertainment is also to be acquired by Microsoft. It seems the reason for these acquisitions is because Microsoft is looking to have some top-tier RPGs under its belt.
“It was important for us to find studio partners who have strong creative visions, a mastery of their medium and are expert world-builders. Obsidian and inXile embody all of these qualities while also bringing expertise on the PC platform and a unique RPG focus to the table,” wrote Matt Booty Corporate Vice President, Microsoft Studios.
This further grows Microsoft‘s studio acquisitions along with the announcements from earlier this year which included studios Ninja Theory, Undead Labs, Compulsion Games, and Playground Games.
