According to reports, Microsoft is working on a new model of Xbox One S that’ll have no disc drive and will completely digital.
According to Thurrott, unnamed sources have confirmed that Microsoft is preparing this disc-less system which it plans to launch in 2019. The reason for this shift is, of course, the move to digital which has been pretty evident in the past few months in UK sales charts.
The other reason is that the lack of disc drive allows Microsoft to drive the cost of the console down even further, which according to the report would put an Xbox One S at less than $200 – which is a pretty significant price drop.
Oddly, the report also adds that Microsoft plans to release another Xbox One S model with a disc drive following the disc-less model. This would make sense as a final push for the Xbox One before Project Scarlett is fully unveiled/launched.
