By this point I think it’s a sure fire thing; you can’t take Twitch out of California — it’s too late — but it looks like you can take the California out of TwitchCon! The people over at Twitch have just announced they will be hosting “TwitchCon Europe” next year!
Follows the success of this year’s TwitchCon in San Jose, California, which saw it’s doors open to tens of thousands of guests, TwitchCon Europe is set to take place April 13-14 at the CityCube in Berlin, Germany. While this is great news for many, for some of us Europeans this is still quite out of the way… but, that long flight without the TSA welcome? A good thing or a bad thing, we’ll leave that up for interpretation.
Germany is Twitch’s go-to choice due to its easy access to amenities and accommodation, as well as ease of international travel and it’s already high numbers of gamers and streamers… I’m sure it has nothing to do prospect of beers in Oktoberfest style proportions. The Twitch team themselves are content in continuing their “annual celebration of the Twitch community, including streamers and their fans, as well as moderators, developers, publishers, and the brands that create the products and experiences that help the community flourish.”, which their original Californian event encapsulated.
It has been stressed that, although Twitch is taking this convention’s expansion overseas, the event itself will be filled with the same great “familiar” experiences as the Californian event itself; including the usual “exhibitor packed expo hall, industry and community-driven panels, meet-and-greets with top streamers, and more.”
The only major difference here between these two Cons, beyond their setting, is that Twitch plans to showcase the inspiration that this new region will have on the event itself — but we can’t quite work out what that will be… wurst and sauerkraut anyone?
Although we know little as of this moment more information will be shared in the months to follow. With that, make sure to keep an eye out for news on tickets, featured guests, and much more yet to come. Twitch do genuinely appear to be excited about TwitchCon Europe with Kate Jhaveri, Chief Marketing Officer of Twitch, recognizing the impact of Twitch as a platform; “It’s a vibrant, growing, and global community and we’re excited to bring TwitchCon to Europe for the first time.”
