A pair of job listings has been posted by Nintendo advertising positions to work on the latest Legend of Zelda title, prompting speculation about the future of the series.
Since the posts merely call for a 3DCG designer and a level designer, with experience in making action games and designing dungeons respectively, it’s unclear what the project is exactly. Could brand new Breath of the Wild DLC be on the horizon, or is this the first news of a fresh project?
Sadly, there’s nothing in either post about being able to design a Master Cycle 2.0, but this doesn’t rule out the possibility of returning to the land of the Divine Beasts, especially after Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa’s recent call for more major title expansions. Alternatively, a totally new Switch title would mark the first time two Zelda games were released for the same home console since 2011’s Skyward Sword or a fifth 3DS cartridge could possibly be on the cards.
Personally, though, my money is on this relating to the heavily rumored Zelda mobile venture, with the franchise following in the footsteps of Mario, Pokémon, Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem in making the platform jump. Such an application is long overdue (with the first speculation of a pocket-sized Zelda surfacing in May 2017), and when coupled with the continued success of the mobile Pokémon and Animal Crossing, in particular, seems almost inevitable.
Regardless of what this ends up being, I think we can all agree that more Zelda in our life is an extremely exciting prospect; start up the hype train again everyone!
