According to a Twitter update from rumor outlet LeakyPandy, Platinum Games – who have seen a fair bit of support from Nintendo since the launch of the Switch – is currently developing two new titles for the console.
With the announcement of Bayonetta 3 at The Game Awards 2017, that brings the total number of confirmed titles in development to three, but doesn’t discount the bevy of plans laid forth by the company.
At a September conference at the Bitsummit Roadshow in Tokyo, Platinum Game’s lead director Hideki Kamiya updated fans on Bayonetta 3‘s development, noting the project was going “very, very well” – clearly, well enough for the rest of the company to be actively working on two brand new titles, all of which are slated for release on the Nintendo Switch next year.
The company has also hinted at a possible Switch port for the Wonderful 101, alongside a brand-new action title expected to “turn the action-genre on it’s head” according to PlatinumGames executive director and producer Atsushi Inaba. Whether or not this purported game-changer is among the latest batch of rumored titles is unclear, but it’s safe to say whatever is in development is bound to land on the Switch.
Speaking with Polygon in September, Inaba credited Nintendo with Bayonetta 2‘s success, sparking a relationship resulting in the IP’s exclusivity to Nintendo consoles. Taking into consideration Bayonetta’s upcoming return to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, adopting Platinum Games’ most popular franchise into their canon appears to be part of Nintendo’s long game; just how these investments will pan out in regards to these rumored titles will come with time.
