If you remember growing up with Spyro igniting Gnorcs, saving your dragon comrades, and burninating sheep, you might also remember another little gem of the 90’s; Cheat Codes.
“Back in the Day”, as we grudgingly need to reference it now, some of the best elements of a game were the cheat codes that came with it. Being able to exploit factors in the game that put it in your favor was one of the best feelings ever. Sadly, today most of those kinds of “game breaking” codes are no longer around unless you count mods, but even that tends to be more PC based.
Well, it turns out the Spyro: Reignited Trilogy has kept all of the cheat codes from the original games! This is by far one of the greatest “Easter Eggs” or throwbacks to an era I have ever seen. Obviously, those who grew up after this time won’t have an appreciation for these silly gaming manipulators, but Spyro Reignited really isn’t for them anyway.
While not all cheat codes seem to be working right now, the ones that let you change his color and size are absolutely working. Along with one players struggling with the games will love; 99 lives. That’s right, throw caution to the wind and run into those Gnorc covered fields flame nostrils blazing. Who needs to worry about dying at the hands of a Gnorc when all those lives are going to keep you coming back for more?!
While some will most certainly need to head back to the notorious GameFAQs site for a refresher, here are a few to get you started. Again, all of these codes are the same button commands as the original titles and refer to the PlayStation button layout. All codes must be put in when players are on the pause menu.
Big Head Cheat
Up, Up, Up, Up, R1, R1, R1, R1, Circle
Flat/ 2D Spyro
left, right, left, right, L2, R2, L2, R2
99 Freaking Lives
R2, L2, R2, L2, Up, Up, Up, Up, Circle
These codes transfer over across titles as well. So, if you made a bright pink Spyro in Year of the Dragon, your next upload into Ripto’s Rage will have the same looking Spyro. Another thing that NEEDS to be stressed here is that as of the time of this writing there is no known way to turn these codes off, cheaters beware.
