The Nintendo Switch might well be THE console to give this Christmas, and I dare say nobody is going to say no to receiving one. But what to play? With so many great titles available, here are our top 5 titles to christen your new console with.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Falling out with your friends. The Game.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has rather taken over the lives of the team, and with good reason. It’s a bloody good time. Fun on your own and even more fun with friends until you inevitably have a fight in real life, there’s countless hours of fun to be had beating the snot out of each other in the digital relm.

We rated Super Smash Bros. Ultimate incredibly highly, scoring the title 9.6/10: “This is the ultimate collection of the very best aspects from the Super Smash Bros. franchise. While minor aspects like online play, lack of new stages, and screen congestion can certainly be annoying, there is little that can stand in the way of this monstrous addition to the Smash Bros. universe.”

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
More ways to lose a friendship

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is an oldie at this point in the lifespan of the Nintendo Switch, and yet it remains ever popular. THE arcade racer, the title offers fun for all the family, and enough competitive gameplay to bring grown men to their knees.

We, like everyone else, rated Mario Kart 8 Deluxe highly, scoring the title 9.5/10, and described the title as “A wonderfully fun game that will keep fans coming back for more, and more, and more. An absolute triumph.”

Octopath Traveler

Gorgeous art and gorgeous storytelling

Octopath Traveler, despite being spelt wrong, is a fantastic title offering some incredible storytelling and some of the best voice-acting in a game to date. Fans of titles turn-based roleplaying titles will adore this title, and sink countless hours into exploring a glorious world.

We rated Octopath Traveler highly, scoring the title 8.8/10 in our review and credited the title for its “Astounding gameplay coupled with some predictable but nonetheless incredible writing that is immaculately well voice acted. The visuals can be a little simplistic in places but amazingly well detailed in others. “

Splatoon 2

Paint the town pink

Splatoon 2 is a third person shooter which includes both a story-driven single-player mode and an online multiplayer modes, allowing you to paint the town pink (or whatever color takes your fancy) both alone and with friends.

We rated Splatoon 2 highly, giving the title 8.5/10 in our review: “I don’t think I can accurately describe just how fun Splatoon 2 really is. If you’ve played the original you have a good idea and are likely to have already picked this up, if you haven’t then I can’t recommend it enough. This charming and cheerful shooter will have you playing for hours thinking only minutes have passed.”

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Breathtaking Hyrule

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the latest in the long-running acclaimed franchise, and it’s so good, it took our Game of the Year nod last year. Offering adventure and story aplenty, Breath of the Wild is one of the must play titles on the Nintendo Switch.

We rated Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild incredibly highly in our review, scoring the title 10/10 in our review: “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild looks to the past to truly reinvent the series, creating a product that doesn’t take you on an adventure, but lets you adventure. A masterpiece.”

There we have it, 5 incredible titles to play on your Nintendo Switch this holiday season. Whats best? You can play these anywhere, and retreat away from nan’s stories to explore some stories of your own.
