Microsoft is starting 2019 strong, with indie-hit and Game of the Year contender Celeste headlining their first Games With Gold releases of the new year.
Celeste’s Games With Gold headliner comes mere weeks after the title’s success at the 2018 Game Awards, being nominated for four awards on the night (including overall Game of the Year), most notably taking home the prize for Best Indie Game. The game earned praise for its tight controls, aesthetic style, and old-school challenge.
Celeste is joined on the Xbox One by WRC 6, Kylotonn’s 2016 entry into the world of Rally. Available January 16 – February 15, WRC 6 offers a great chance for players to dive into one of the most technical forms of motorsport.
Holding down the fort on Xbox 360 and Xbox One Backwards Compatability is 2010’s Lara Croft: Guardian of Light, offering players a unique experience, offering an isometric view to control Lara. The title’s combat is akin to that of a twin-stick shooter, and co-op allows players to tackle the challenge together. Lara Croft: Guardian of Light will be available January 1-15.
Joining Lara is Ubisoft’s 2008 hit, Far Cry 2. Set in Africa,
the game tasks the player with defeating the Jackal, the title’s arms dealer antagonist fueling a surrounding civil war. What better way to wait for Far Cry: New Dawn than by indulging in one of the franchises landmark entries? Far Cry 2 will be available January 16-31.

I think it is fantastic news that Games With Gold will open Celeste’s surprisingly profound and personal experience up to a whole new audience; who otherwise may not be willing to explore the indie options at their fingertips.
