When a film adaptation of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark was announced, it seemed too good to be true. Even moreso when Guillermo del Toro was rumored to be attached to the project as a writer.

So to the horror–and delight–of all those who were scarred by these kid-level horror anthologies in their youth, it seems that all of these things were true. We really will be getting the movie in 2019, and Guillermo del Toro is on the credits list.

The books were simply collections of folklore, songs, campfire tales, and urban legends, so it will be interesting to see which stories do make it into the movie. According to Wikipedia, the movie is about a group of teens trying to solve a mystery about “spectacularly horrific” deaths in their town. IMDB’s description is similar, saying the group of kids must “face their fears in order to save their town.” Personally, my money is on Harold for the antagonist/murderer.

We won’t have to wait terribly long for the answer to that question, though. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark will be released in theaters on August 9, 2019. Which creepy characters are you hoping to see on the big screen?
