In a shocking turn of events, God of War has won Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2018.
When Red Dead Redemption 2 seemed to be raking in the early wins, it seemed like hope was lost for the competing IPs. Surprisingly, God of War pulled through in the final minutes and took home the Gold. What followed was one of the classiest and most emotional acceptances from a team that radiates passion for their work.
God of War released back in April to rave reviews. It was a long-anticipated title that faced its series of hardships, but upon release immediately put anyone’s worries to rest. A completely new art direction and a singular focus on delivering a truly memorable journey made God of War an early obvious nominee for the prestigious award.
This was the title’s second award of the night, having earlier won the award for Best Game Direction.
Congratulations to Cory Balrogg and the team at Sony Santa Monica on their much-deserved win tonight!
