Retro Games Plus, a popular chain of retro videogame retailers that dabbles in other goods in Connecticut, opened a fourth location out in Huntington Beach, California, ten months ago.
The stores in the Connecticut area host special trade night events that allow local collectors to set up shop in the store and hang out. Undoubtedly because of the success of these ConnGo (Connecticut Gamers Organization) events, the Huntington Beach location is getting in on the fun of these days with their own version: CalGo, or, California Gamers Organization.
According to the first CalGo event’s Facebook page, the CalGo events will be modeled off of the ConnGo events. So, collectors are welcome to set up shop in the store with events related to video games, toys, and other items related to pop culture, at tables no larger than the average card table (3′). There will be free pizza and soda available for attendees. The CalGo event will be free to attend in itself, and the store itself is still technically open, so you can browse their goods as well.
There is also the possibility of special promotions, giveaways, and tournaments throughout the night, though there have been no specific details released about this either. At ConnGo events, this sometimes meant tickets to events like Retro World Expo, though it might be more realistic to expect that CalGo would pick a more local convention or trade show, should they choose to do something similar for prizes.
The first CalGo trade night will take place on Saturday, March 16, from 8 PM to 11 PM at the Huntington Beach Retro Games Plus location. For more information about this event and CalGo, you can check out the event’s Facebook page.
