The ESRB has officially announced and submitted their final rating for Devil May Cry 5 and it should come as no surprise that it’s been given an ‘M’ rating for mature audiences of 18 and above.
I think there would have definitely been a problem if we got a rating of ‘E’ for everyone… I can already see Capcom’s twitter ablaze with fan fury in that instance. Here is the ESRB’s full quote on the sequel:
“This is an action game in which players follow the story of three heroes (Dante, Nero, V) in their quest to save the world from demons. From a third-person perspective, players use swords, guns, and special attacks (e.g., a prosthetic hand with electric bursts) to kill hordes of demons in frenetic combat. Battles are highlighted by gunfire, screams of pain, and slow-motion finishing moves/highlights.
“One cutscene depicts civilians screaming in pain while being impaled by demon tentacles. Blood appears frequently during combat and stains several environments. Some female characters are depicted partially nude, with their breasts and buttocks minimally covered by blood, light, or clothing. The words “f**k” and “sh*t” appear in the dialogue.”
Thankfully Dante, Nero, and newcomer to the franchise ‘V’ will be reprising their demon hunter roles to push back the minions of darkness into the furthest reaches of hell and it’s going to be as bloody and crass as ever. If you have yet to see any gameplay on the upcoming sequel than you can watch the latest trailer right here.
Devil May Cry 5 will release for PS4, Xbox One and PC on March 8, 2019.
