While we have been patiently waiting for the next Nintendo Direct to fill us in on all the major releases coming this year, a Czech retailer may have accidentally shown us when we can expect Metroid Prime 4 to release.
If a post from Bad Five is to be believed, Czech retailer SuperGamer has added a release date of November 29, 2019, to their Metroid Prime 4 listing. The listing and date is currently live at time of writing.
Now obviously, this should be taken with a huge grain of salt as Nintendo has yet to confirm any sort of release window for the highly anticipated upcoming Metroid installment. If the date is accurate though, it will give Nintendo almost a full year to get that hype train moving, not that they need to consider the huge popularity of the long-standing IP.
Metroid Prime 4 was originally announced back in June during the E3 2017 conference. Since then we have not received any new information regarding the upcoming Metroid title, and when it was officially announced, all we got was a fancy title flash across the screen.
Nintendo of America’s President, Reggie Fils-Aime, revealed last year that the company had “expectations” regarding the game’s release. Stating, “Internally, we have expectations about when [Metroid Prime 4] is going to be released… We haven’t announced it, but yeah, the game is well in development.”
We also know that – thanks to Reggie – Nintendo likes to announce release dates within 6 months to a year of the game being ready for launch. Obviously, this supposed November 29 date falls nicely within that range.
Rumor also has it that Bandai Namco is heading development on this title and not Retro Studios who headed the development of the first three Metroid games. Metroid Prime 4 is being led by Kensuke Tanabe though which is reassuring, considering he was co-producer on the original Metroid as well as a producer on Metroid Prime 2 and 3.
