After a thorough time in Early Access and listening to many voices from the community Motion Twin finally released Dead Cells to glowing reviews, one of them by our own Mark Caffrey. In a behind the scenes interview one of the game designers of the acclaimed the roguelike metroidvania, Sébastien Bénard, throws a couple of information at us.

In the newly released interview with Game Informer Sébastien Bénard gives it to us straight, fans of Dead Cells shouldn’t get their hopes up for a sequel, joking if a Dead Cells 2 would be made, it would only be “because we really need the money”.

“In terms of a sequel, we know for sure it’s not a good idea to dwell on your success. If you create a big hit, it’s best to use this energy to make something different. I don’t think we’ll make a Dead Cells 2. We’re more open to creating more content and opening the game up more to the community.

If we did make a Dead Cells 2, it’s because we really need the money (laughs). We don’t want to stick to the same thing though, so I think if we did come back it would be something quite different, not a platformer or roguelike along these lines.”

The interview in general is a great read to get a glimpse into the process behind Dead Cells and he doesn’t completely rule out the possibility of a future for the series, even if that would mean a very different approach. Also, additional content and even more community involvement are firmly on the table.
