Nintendo has today announced that their next smartphone title, Mario Kart Tour, will now launch sometime this Summer.
Nintendo revealed the news during the company’s quarterly earning’s report. Originally Mario Kart Tour was set to launch before the end of Nintendo’s fiscal year which ends on March 31, 2019.
“In the smart-device business, Mario Kart Tour was scheduled to be released this fiscal year, but in order to improve quality of the application and expand the content offerings after launch, the release date has been moved to summer 2019,” Nintendo wrote to investors.
As for what we know about the game, Nintendo has only released a logo and release window. The company seems to be keeping very quiet about this release though we’re hoping they’ll reveal more in the coming weeks.
Could Mario Kart Tour be another title like Mario Run which was “free to start” and the rest of the game could be unlocked via in-app purchase? How exactly will Mario Kart translate to mobile? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
