In the early hours of Monday morning, Capcom made a press release on how the Resident Evil 2 Remake had performed over the first weekend. The numbers are an impressive, if not particularly surprising amount, with over 3 million units shipped. This includes digital sales and physical units.
Although with all credit due to Capcom, Resident Evil 2 has been a very well received and critically acclaimed game by fans and reviewers across the board, giving the game a solid 9/10 overall! Apart from that one time a certain big gaming website gave it an 8.8/10 and then changed it to 9/10 because clearly, they didn’t thoroughly review the game properly… the name slips my mind. Instead, check out our thoroughly detailed review of what we thought of the Resident Evil 2 remake here.
The original Resident Evil 2 sold over 4.9 million units in it’s 90’s era and that was a lot of money for a video game to make back in those days, though this remake of the classic Resident Evil 2 should surpass that number with ease, and Capcom will probably give out those figures around the end of the fiscal year in March.
For a franchise that has seen highs and lows, we should all remember that this totals the overall franchise sales at 88 million units, an incredibly impressive number for such a stellar game series. I’m sure we’ll be looking forward to many more entries in the series to come. I can already hear the whispers of the yet-to-be announced Resident Evil 3 Remake on the winds from Japan as we speak…
Resident Evil 2 is out now for PS4, Xbox One & PC.
