The first UK Gaming Charts of the year is topped by a familiar title, FIFA 19, who manages to knock Red Dead Redemption 2 from the top spot.
With no new physical releases in the UK Gaming Charts this week the top ten list is pretty much identical to last week. Okay, FIFA 19 scored a few more sales this week putting it above Red Dead Redemption 2 this week. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 rounds off the top three.
Due to it being the first week of January, sales dropped across the board which isn’t unusual. At the same time though, according to The Entertainment Retail Association, 80% of games sold in 2018 were digital, so that may also be a factor in this.
The good news is that this is just one of the few remaining UK Gaming Charts that’ll be solely counting physical sales. Come March, we’ll have a combined physical/digital chart. However, this will come in two forms with GfK releasing a physical chart and ISFE/B2Boost will be releasing a digital chart later in the week.
With January being host to a couple of big releases, two from Nintendo, including New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, as well as Square Enix’ Kingdom Hearts 3, these charts are likely to get shaken up somewhat.
