During EA’s quarterly earnings, the company revealed that they expect Anthem to sell 6 million copies in just 6 weeks which is pretty ambitious.
After all the controversy surrounding EA and everyone’s wariness about Anthem I’m dubious that they’ll be hitting that target in 6 weeks alone, though at the same time, early impressions may not be an indication of sales, after all.
EA’s CFO Blake Jorgensen has said that they project Anthem to sell between 5 and 6 million copies across all platforms before the end of this current fiscal year. EA’s fiscal year ends on March 31, 2019… so I guess a lot of wishing and sacrificial lambs were killed in the making of this appeasement to the financial gods?
Electronic Arts troubled history, and recent backfire on many of their titles such as Battlefield V, Mass Effect, and of course Star Wars Battlefront (both games), to name a few, has severely hindered their chances of any trust in them. Not to mention that while the recent VIP Demo was enjoyed by many, it was riddled with many loading problems and online server issues.
Let’s all watch and see if BioWare will meet EA’s high expectations of it’s projected forecasts, otherwise, we could see another beloved company dismantled by the publishing powerhouse, which quite frankly is no good for anyone!
Anthem will release on PS4, Xbox One and PC on February 22, 2019.
