According to a report from Variety, an animated Gremlins series is in the works for WarnerMedia’s upcoming streaming service.
The news comes via sources who have revealed that the animated series will take a step back in time and follow Mr. Wing, who in the series will be a young man going on adventures with his Mogwai, Gizmo.
Producers of the Gremlins movies, Warner Bros. Television and Amblin Television, will be producing the animated series, too, with Tze Chun writing and executive producing. Both companies declined to comment on this rumor.
The series is also expected to land on WarnerMedia’s currently unnamed streaming platform. Plans for the service are currently under wraps, but it’s been stated that Warner-owned IP will form the basis of some original content coming to the service.
Gremlins first hit our screens back in 1984 which saw, Billy (Zach Galligan) receive a mysterious creature called a Mogwai, as a pet, with strict instructions to not feed him after midnight or get him wet. Unfortunately, after an accident, Gizmo, as the Mogwai becomes to be known, begins to spawn other Mogwai who cause a bit of a commotion, and inevitably turn into the titular Gremlins. The movie went on to spawn a sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch which launches in 1990.
