The Punisher Still Netflix

Netflix and Marvel Studios has today confirmed that the remaining Marvel series’ Jessica Jones and The Punisher have been canceled.

Unsurprisingly, following the cancellation of Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, Marvel’s remaining series’ Jessica Jones and The Punisher have both been canceled. Interestingly, it looks like Jessica Jones will get its third season regardless, but it will be its last.

“Marvel’s The Punisher will not return for a third season on Netflix. Showrunner Steve Lightfoot, the terrific crew, and exceptional cast including star Jon Bernthal, delivered an acclaimed and compelling series for fans, and we are proud to showcase their work on Netflix for years to come,” Netflix confirmed.

“In addition, in reviewing our Marvel programming, we have decided that the upcoming third season will also be the final season for Marvel’s Jessica Jones. We are grateful to showrunner Melissa Rosenberg, star Krysten Ritter and the entire cast and crew, for three incredible seasons of this groundbreaking series, which was recognized by the Peabody Awards among many others.”

This, of course, means that Marvel’s partnership with Netflix has come to an end following the launch of the first Daredevil season in 2013.

Chances are Disney is eyeing up this Marvel TV universe for their own Disney+ streaming service which is set to kick off later this year. Although there haven’t been any confirmations, the streaming service is already preparing shows based on Marvel characters such as Loki and Scarlet Witch.

I guess we’ll have to see what the future holds for The Defenders.
