Neill Blomkamp, the director of District 9, Elysium, and Chappie, will be directing a short live-action feature for BioWare’s upcoming Anthem game.
He began with cryptic tweets which have since been shared around by lead developers of the Anthem project, Mark Darrah and Michael Gamble. Then earlier this week it was confirmed to be a short flick titled Anthem: Conviction.
This isn’t Neill’s first step into the gaming world as he previously directed a short live-action feature for Bungie titled Halo: Landfall in 2007 to many fans appraise. In recent years he was also in the process of directing the next Alien film with Sigourney Weaver attached to the project but with Ridley Scott’s Prometheus trilogy revolving around the Alien cinematic universe, it was decided that the focus should be that for now rather than confusing everyone with a direct sequel in the midst of Ridley’s project.

This should be a big promotional boost for the Anthem game and it seems to be in very qualified hands to handle such a project of this magnitude before the official game launch. I look forward to seeing this live-action piece as I always thought a film based on this would look very appealing, destroying alien species in different types of Iron Man mech outfits?! Sold! Maybe this will help EA’s expectations of their 6 million copies sold in 6 weeks too?!
After the above Tweet, Blomkamp shared a teaser for the reveal which is set to arrive on Thursday, ramping up the excitement for fans just that bit more. Take a look at the teaser for the Anthem Conviction, below:
