Late last week Overwatch dropped two posts possibly hinting at its next hero. The Overwatch Twitter account posted a short, glitchy video (below) with a link back to the game’s blog site with an attached letter expanding on in-game lore (also below).
The letter mentions orders to retrieve Jean-Baptiste Augustin, a medic who has defected from Talon. This description and class identifier likely mean Augustin is the next hero headed to the game’s roster, but Blizzard has proven me wrong before.
I’ve never known a medic to be such a good shot, and his adaptability to new situations is a rare talent. All of us have seen our fair share of conflict, but Baptiste was built to survive. I swear he has the Devil’s own luck.
The above passage from the letter gives us a starting point to speculate the new character’s abilities. First and clearest, the character is a medic but one that is “built to survive,” opening the door that Augustin could be bulkier with more health or has an above average ability to heal himself as well as others.
Captain Cuerva, the author of the letter and the person who trained Augustine, is surprised that he is “such a good shot” for a medic. Maybe Augustine is like Soldier 76, who is a great shot with decent healing powers, but the opposite.
Or Blizzard is getting crazy with the cheese whiz here an is making a DPS-Tank-Medic hybrid to break the meta. I’d be down but until it’s confirmed we speculate and wait for the next cryptic, lore-filled tease.
