Yesterday’s Nintendo Direct shed some light on the future of the company’s latest hit, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It was announced that the games next big title update, version 3.0, would be coming sometime over Spring.
Whilst details about what the update will bring remain elusive, Nintendo did specify that this window would also see the release of its first Challenge Pack, which brings the addition of the Persona 5 lead Joker as a DLC fighter. Each Challenge Pack is set to contain one of these new fighters, with an accompanying stage and music collection. Players can choose to buy these sets individually, or purchase the Fighters Pass to gain access to them all upon their respective launch dates.
Joker was confirmed to be in the game before the end of April, just a few months after the first new fighter, Piranha Plant, joined the battle. If Nintendo keeps this pace up, the game’s roster could hit the 80 character mark before the end of the year. Unfortunately, though, there was no definitive news on the next addition, despite fierce rumors and data mines seemingly confirming the next fighter.
Amiibo fans also received some stellar news from the stream, with 5 new models being debuted and promised to be coming soon. Metal Gear Solid’s Solid Snake, Castlevania’s Simon Belmont, plus Squirtle, Ivysaur and a trainer from the Pokémon series will all be available to join your growing collection before you know it.
Things are looking good for the third best selling game on the Switch, we’ll be sure to give you more details on version 3.0 as and when they are announced!
