As previously rumored (and teased), Respawn Entertainment officially announced Apex Legends their free-to-play battle royale Titanfall spin-off. What’s more, it’s available to download and play right now.
EA Games and Respawn surprised us all this weekend when rumors started to appear saying that they were planning to release a spin-off to Titanfall. What wasn’t so surprising was that it was another battle royale game. Alas, Respawn unveiled the game during a live stream earlier this evening as well as confirming the rumors that it would also be launching today.
The game is available to download for free for PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One.
Set in the Titanfall universe, Apex Legends features human and robotic fighters known as Legends who are battling it out for survival among 60 other Legends. The game actually forces players to squad up too, as teams of three, which is interesting. As for Titanfall’s titular Titans, they’re not in this game.
Right now, the roster of Legends is pretty small, though EA and Respawn plan to release more over time. The game, much like other battle royale titles, will feature a seasonal competitive structure where players can unlock all manner of items from Legends themselves to weapons, loot, and more.
The game is also supported by microtransactions including Legend skins which can cost up to £20.
