Get your top hats and your teacups at the ready, as a fresh rumor is circulating about Professor Layton and the Curious Village being ported to the Nintendo Switch.
The whispers have been sparked by a listing on the G4F Localisation website, which notes that translation work for the title was completed last year by Native Prime; a little strange for a game more than a decade old.
Similarly, the 2018 reboot Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy, which follows Layton’s daughter and has already been ported from the 3DS to the Switch in Japan, also has a page noting an imminent localization. Two Layton games coming to the same home console? Lucky us!
The 2007 DS classic, which was a Christmas bestseller upon its release, launched a successful series of games (plus a pretty fun movie) for the British academic and his ever faithful sidekick, Luke. Combining interesting, challenging puzzles and a gorgeous art style with an intriguing plot was and continues to be, a hard concept to resist.
Naturally, this type of gameplay would translate very well to the Switch, being one of the prettiest games on the system when docked, yet perfectly suited to portable, on the go gaming as well.
On a personal note, Layton has always been my most wanted pick to receive an invitation to the Super Smash Bros. series, so hopefully, these ports show renewed interest and get us all one step closer to my dream…
