NeatherRealm Studios has confirmed the return of classic characters to Mortal Kombat 11 including Noob Saibot, Kotal Kahn & Jacqui Briggs, and has revealed some very surprising DLC news.
The never-ending conflict between Earthrealm, Netherealm, and the other realms rages on throughout time and space. The latest Mortal Kombat is turning out to be rife with content that will make longtime fans of the classic beat ‘em up franchise go crazy.
The great Emperor of Outworld Kotal Kahn has graced us with an intense new trailer showing off more Mayan based fighting, including new jaguar based powers allowing him to maul his opponents mercilessly like a headdress-wearing cat with a mouse. Phil LaMarr, Legendary Voice Actor, once again voices Kotal Kahn. LaMarr has appeared in nearly every cartoon ever including Futurama’s Hermes Conrad, Static Shock’s Virgil Hawkins, Samurai Jack’s Samurai Jack, and Family Guy’s Ollie Williams to name a few of my favorites, oh and got shot in the face that one time in Pulp Fiction. Legacy fighter Jacqueline “Jacqui” Briggs also makes a knock-out first appearance by repeatedly kicking in the Emporer of Outworld.
Both characters made their playable debuts in Mortal Kombat X and have each received minor overhauls to both their moves and costumes and if you are not a fan of any of the new designs you have limited customization of each of the characters. I will personally attempt to make the line up of characters match the stylings of the best video game film of all time 1995’s Mortal Kombat. This will be made much simpler with the long rumored and fan-requested return of Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa As Shang Tsung.

“Your soul will be mine.”
There is no Shang Tsung other than Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa. Shang Tsung will be your Krypt-keeper styled host in the new Krypt mode and will also be added to the game as the very first DLC character. This announcement has made my excitement level go way up for the eleventh entry in the twenty-seven-year-old franchise.
Noob Saibot’s trailer shows off his new default look, silly voice, and a few brief glimpses of Noob Saibot’s updated move-set, now featuring more interactivity with his shadow duplicate. One of the new stages featured in Noob’s debut trailer is set in a cyborg factory of some sort and includes a shackled cyborg warrior (possibly Cyber Sub-Zero or Hydro).
Could this be a hint of one of the upcoming DLC characters? Ed Boon has been quoted as promising no repeated DLC and MKX had a DownLoadable Cyborg who was, in fact, the warrior known as Triborg, an entity made up of the powers of four of the most famous members of the Lin Kuei: Sektor, Cyrax, Smoke, and Sub-Zero. Netherealm’s DLC is normally made up of some exciting character choices, Freddy Kruger, the Turtles, and Xenomorphs anyone? Here’s hoping that one of these slots is not taken up by another cyborg reskin and something more akin to Hellboy or Leatherface.
