Screenwriter Henry Gayden has reportedly signed on for the sequel of Shazam! following the movie’s success in the Box Office.
In a report from The Wrap, Gayden is set to return to write the sequel of the DCEU hit, Shazam!, not only that, director David F. Sandberg and producer Peter Safran are looking to return too. Currently, Gayden is writing an adaptation of the upcoming sci-fi novel, Last Human.
With a $53 million opening weekend, Shazam! was a pretty big success for Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema, so it makes sense that they’d be looking toward a sequel. That being said, the movie itself had a pretty definitive ending, with only a few places we could see a sequel branching from, so it’ll be interesting to see if Shazam! could impress for a second time.
The movie did hint toward Black Adam early in the film, and Dwayne Johnson who has been tied to the movie for a while now reacted to Shazam!‘s success on Instagram hinting that the Black Adam solo movie will begin filming in the next year and beyond. So that’s something, I guess?
In our review, we wrote that “Zachary Levi was an inspiring choice to play Shazam! and really excels in the role. The child cast in the movie is one of the best I have seen. However, the movie suffers from a predictable plot and a boring villain.”
