Sega has recently announced their own miniature console, the Mega Drive Mini, and given it a release date to boot: September 19.

Featuring 40 games differing between regions, the console is suggested to come with one of two controller variations. North America and Europe will be looking at a 3-button control pad, whilst their counterparts in Japan can reportedly look forward to a 6-button pattern.

Some of the games have also been revealed, again with some variance between regions. Included in the US from this list are:

  • Altered Beast
  • Castlevania: Bloodlines
  • Comix Zone
  • Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
  • Ecco the Dolphin
  • Gunstar Heroes
  • Shining Force
  • Sonic The Hedgehog
  • Space Harrier II
  • ToeJam & Earl

With the Japanese reveals as follows:

  • Gunstar Heroes
  • Comix Zone
  • Shining Force
  • Space Harrier II
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2
  • Castlevania: Bloodlines
  • Puyo Puyo Tsu
  • Madou Monogatari I
  • Powerball
  • Rent-A-Hero

As for the UK:

  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Ecco the Dolphin
  • Castlevania: Bloodlines
  • Space Harrier 2
  • Shining Force
  • Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
  • Earthworm Jim
  • Comix Zone
  • Altered Beast
  • Gunstar Heroes

There was much demand for the Nintendo and Sony mini-consoles and Sega will be hoping for similar success when the mini console orders go live.

Pre-orders are now live for $79.99/£69.99/€79.99/AUD$139.95, and although the news hasn’t quite hit the interest as seen in the mini console’s market peers, there will surely be enough demand among collectors to see the mini leaving the shelves at a quick rate.
