Back in January I already vented about EA’s track record when it comes to Star Wars games in their exclusivity deal with Disney. I’m totally not going to do that again, and with the help of Respawn Entertainment, I may actually not have to.
On Saturday EA presented a reveal trailer of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. We mainly get to see the game’s protagonist Cal Kestis, a padawan (read: Jedi apprentice) who survived Order 66, through which the Jedi order was crushed by the Galactic Empire. Beyond that the trailer shows some environments and characters, but not a whole lot more.
In a press event, which you can find right here on Twitch, some more details are revealed, including a less than convincing reasoning for why they’ve chosen to present a story focused trailer and that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be a melee focused action game. There’s also a short interview with Cameron Monaghan, who portrays Cal Kestis. Be ready for the usual share of cringe found in most stage events pertaining to gaming.
Actual gameplay was nowhere to be found and in all honesty, the CGI, supposedly rendered in the game engine, was kind of lackluster. Until this thing actually comes out I am still not convinced that EA is really able to produce a good Star Wars game during their exclusivity deal with Disney.
Respawn Entertainment has garnered a lot of goodwill with the gaming community, particularly with their battle royale smash hit Apex Legends, but I have faith in the EA of the 2010’s to somehow throw a wrench in the works.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will hit us on November 15, 2019, and somewhere deep down I’m still hoping for a good new Star Wars game.
