The 2009 classic PlayStation 3 and Xbox title Ghostbusters: The Video Game has surfaced on a Taiwanese rating board which suggests a remaster is incoming. This was first brought to the attention of the internet thanks to a Restera member named NanoGuidingStar.
Unfortunately for fellow ‘busters, the link provided on the rating board currently 404’s but rest assured as soon as we get any more info we will share.
Ghostbusters: The Video Game came out in a time when the hot trend was to create videogame sequels to classic movies, see Scarface: The World is Yours, The Godfather: The Don’s Edition and Wanted: Weapons of Fate. These where all simple cash-ins featuring barely acceptable impersonations of the well-known actors and rehashes of the source material’s story. Not 2009’s Ghostbusters: The Video Game, however.
This is a game blessed with the full cast of primary Ghostbusting team Hudson, Murray, Ramis, and Akroyd. Non-ghostbusting William Atherton, Brian Doyle-Murray and Annie Potts reprised their original characters too. Oscar winner Max von Sydow also the voice of Vigo the Carpathian.
This was an unbelievably talented and star-studded cast for any media project let alone a videogame movie adaptation made thirty years after the original property 1984’s release.
Since the release of Extreme Ghostbusters in 1997 this game and it’s cartoony Wii version was the only canon entries Ghostbusters franchise and with 2016’s Ghostbusters flopquel they still are.
This is all set to change in 2020 with the release of Ghostbusters an upcoming movie directed and co-written by Jason Reitman, the world’s first Ghostbusters busters fan and series cocreators Ivan Reitman’s son. This film is currently in production and a rerelease of Ghostbusters: The Video Game would help to build the hype for Ghostbusters 2020.
