There’s a new Need for Speed title coming this year, EA Games has revealed, but we won’t be seeing it at E3 2019.
EA Games are one of a handful of big names that have dropped out of this year’s even either in favor of their own event outside of E3, or in Sony’s case, hosting a series of smaller live streams throughout the year. So, it comes as no surprise that despite new titles coming from EA this year, not all of them will be on show.
One of those titles specifically is Need for Speed which is set to see a brand new installment speed onto consoles and PC this year. In a post on the game’s forums, NFS Team not only reminded us that it was the game’s 25th anniversary but also revealed that they had no plans for June.
“This year is a bit of a special one for NFS, too, as we are turning 25 years. We’ve had almost 25 years going fast, and we can’t wait to kick-start our 26th with the next NFS game.
“And while we’ve had some great memories over those twenty-five years, we’re not here to look back and reminisce. We’ve got our eyes set firmly on the future. But even while focusing on the future – especially this year – we’ve also thought a lot about what NFS means to you, and perhaps more importantly what we hope it will mean as we move forward.”
The post also detailed some of the things we can expect from the upcoming arcade racer such as cars (obviously) and car customization, which “play a pivotal role in the series and are two aspects that we consider to be foundational, meaning they aren’t going anywhere because NFS wouldn’t exist without them.”
It continues to stress that while things have been a tradition for some time, these things are also set to be broken, and it moves onto what is presumably E3.
“Are you going to hear more about the next NFS title? Yes. Is it being released this year? Yes. Will we be doing anything in June? No. It’s as simple as that, but we wanted to give you a heads up before you started asking ‘where are you?'”
So there you have it, we’ll be hearing more about the next Need for Speed title soon, but when exactly, we can’t be sure. Soon after E3, there’s Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, so maybe EA is saving an announcement for then?
