During Facebook’s F8 event, the company unveiled the shipping dates of its upcoming Virtual Reality (VR) headsets, the Oculus Quest and Oculus Rift S.
Announced at GDC 2019, the Oculus Rift S is basically a revised version of the current Oculus Rift but this time with inside-out tracking allowing users to ditch the lighthouse sensors. As for the Oculus Quest, this is the more substantial release, as it’s a completely self-contained, untethered, headset. Both headsets are expected to begin shipping on May 21.
While the Oculus Rift S will retain compatibility with the current Rift set up and games, the Oculus Quest will be supported by around 50 games at launch, including the popular title Beat Saber and Space Pirate Trainer.
Both headsets will be retailing at $399 which makes them much more affordable than the Valve Index which was also announced this week and is set to ship for $999 ($499 for the headset alone).
