As predicted, RAGE 2 has launched into first place following a series of quiet weeks in the UK Gaming Charts, though it underperformed compared to its predecessor.
Now, it’s worth noting before we continue that the UK Gaming Charts don’t count digital sales, only physical. A combined chart was planned for 2019 but it seems those plans have been delayed for some reason.
So on that note, the news that the game performing worse than its predecessor is likely due to the rise in digital sales over physical. RAGE 2 actually positioned much higher than its predecessor in 2011, however, physical sales are only a quarter of what the original achieved across Xbox 360, PS2, and PC.
Does that mean it performed better digitally? Unfortunately, Bethesda doesn’t share digital sales figures, and GSD data, according to GI.biz, suggests that 50% of console sales in the UK are digital. So with that, it’d be safe to suggest that RAGE 2 has still only sold half that of the original.
As sales continue to drag in the physical games market, a handful of titles have placed quite high this week including A Plague’s Tale: Innocence which debuts in ninth place followed by Sniper Elite V2: Remastered which debuts in thirteenth.
The Switch version of Mortal Kombat 11 also launched last week pushing that title from fourth place to second.
