Following on from the success of its other mobile games like Fire Emblem Heroes and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, Nintendo is set to debut its latest on-the-go offering. Dr. Mario World launches on July 10 and will be available on both iOS and Android platforms.
Unlike previous mobile titles from Nintendo, Dr. Mario World tasks players with solving puzzles. These come in the form of pesky viruses that need to be eliminated by Dr. Mario and company, with players needing to use medicinal capsules of the same color as the virus to remove it. The gameplay emphasizes careful planning: you only have a limited number of capsules available.
The game includes several fan-favorite characters from the Mario universe, each of them now sporting medical attire to fit their new role. Aside from Dr. Mario himself, you can also play as Dr. Peach, Dr. Toad, and even Dr. Bowser, amongst others, and each doctor has unique skills that can help you clear each stage.
Dr. Mario World features five worlds consisting of over 200 stages altogether, and the game is set to receive regular post-launch updates: new doctors, stages, and worlds will be added to the game on a regular basis.
Aside from a single-player Stage Mode, players can also challenge one another in Versus Mode, which sees two opponents face off in a real-time, virus-curing match.
Described as free-to-start by Nintendo, Dr. Mario World includes microtransactions in the form of an in-game currency called Diamonds. These can be used in numerous ways, including restoring the stamina you need to attempt a stage.
Although Dr. Mario World doesn’t launch for another few weeks, you can pre-register now on your device’s app store to be notified when the game is available.
