Although we don’t yet have a firm release date, the upcoming Pokémon Masters mobile game is set to launch this summer. The window was confirmed during a livestream earlier today, June 27.
A joint production between The Pokémon Company and DeNa, the game will feature 3v3 battles and sports a roster of characters and creatures alike from the franchise’s decades-long history. From Brock and Misty to more recent characters like Korrina and Acerola, you can expect plenty of options when assembling your team.
According to Yu Sasaki, the producer of the game, Pokémon Masters is set on the artificial island of Pasio. To compete in the Pokémon Masters League, Trainers will need to form groups of three, each of them bringing their own partner — a partnership referred to as a Sync Pair.
A game like this feels like it’s been a long time coming. Aside from a few cameo appearances here and there, there hasn’t been a whole lot linking one generation of Pokémon games to another.
Now, Trainers and Pokémon alike from Kanto all the way to Alola can team up and fight together — or against one another. The 8-minute presentation didn’t reveal a whole lot of gameplay, but it certainly showed a generous serving of nostalgia.
There’s still plenty that’s unclear, including how the game will handle microtransactions and the like. For now, you can check out the new footage below.
