Remedy has regained the publishing rights for the Alan Wake franchise from Microsoft, leaving the company free to publish the titles elsewhere, should they wish to do so.

The new was revealed through a recent announcement, of a royalty payment of 2.5 million Euros to the studio for the IP, meaning that Remedy now has all the rights required to publish the current games in the franchise – Alan Wake and Alan Wake’s American Nightmare – on whatever platform it sees fit, should the company choose to.

Talking to VG247 at PAX East earlier this year, Thomas Puha, director of communications at Remedy Games spoke about the possible continuation of the franchise stating that the company “were working on Alan Wake 2 years ago and it just didn’t pan out, so there’s nothing” He then went on to explain that the company does “own the Alan Wake IP” but also state that “it’s never quite as simple as that” so we probably shouldn’t expect anything until long after the company is finished working on its current project, Control.
