Donkey Kong is about to be brought into the really world, as new photos appear to reveal a new exciting attraction.
It’s old news that Universal Studios Japan has been planning a “Nintendo World Theme Park,” but it’s been a while since we’ve heard anything new.
We haven’t seen too much yet, either, until today. The Unofficial Universal Orlando Podcast has just leaked early photos of concept models of the theme park. The models look like they’re straight out of a Super Mario game. And because the mock-up is old, newer, less detailed images have shown off parts of the Mushroom Kingdom before. We have known about some details, such as the Mario Kart track, which is located in what appears to be Bowser’s castle.
The big, new detail that these photos show us is a Donkey Kong area of the Nintendo World theme park. The attraction includes Donkey Kong’s treehouse, a minecart track (there is no word on if it will be a working ride or not, but its entrance is titled “Minecart Madness,” suggesting rideability), Funky Kong’s plane, and even a Barrel Cannon, among many other superb Country-related details. You can have a closer look at all of the leaked photographs of the models below.
The hope is that this Tokyo-based park will be open in time for the 2020 Olympics, which will start in Tokyo on July 24, 2020 and run until August 9, 2020. In the following years, we should be getting similar Nintendo-themed parks in Hollywood, California (2021 or 2022), Orlando, Florida (2023 or later), and finally Singapore (by 2025). There is, of course, no word on how similar these parks will be to the original Tokyo concept art.
