Though Tumblr has been mostly about posting, curating, and creating content to share with followers, the site is heading in a new direction, this time with a new chat feature allowing bloggers to message each other in real time.
reddit's AMA's have seen the likes of the Mythbusters and the President of the United States, among many others, take part in all holds barred Q&A sessions where almost anything goes. But it looks like reddit might have some stiff competition with Tumblr's Answer Time.
Users can access the blocking feature from clicking on a user's profile and then opening a submenu where the button can be found. Additionally a user can also block someone from within their own inbox. If you find yourself spammed with messages from a single troll then deal a blow back by again accessing a drop-down menu within the messages screen. Lastly, you can simple block users through the settings page by manually entering a username and hitting enter.
Tumblr who are now owned by Yahoo who bagged the popular blogging platform for $1.1 billion have rolled out an important update for the iOS Tumblr app to address a vulnerability in security.
Back in May when Tumblr was purchased by Yahoo, CEO Marissa Mayer was asked directly whether Yahoo would restrict content on Tumblr. “No, we won’t,” she said. “It’s the nature of user-generated content.”. She also spoke about the importance of the "NSFW" tag that Tumblr already has in place. However on according to ZDNET, on Thursday Tumblr implemented a new "adult blog search policy" which essentially restricts NSFW content from being indexed by search engines as well as Tumblr's own internal search system.
It's finally official! After a weekend of speculation, rumours, and reports from unknown but 'reliable' sources, Marissa Mayer finally confirmed in an event yesterday that Yahoo! has in fact acquired Tumblr. for $1.1 billion of which is mostly cash. In a post on her own Tumblr. page Mayer wrote "We promise not to screw it up,". This is good news for Tumblr. who were on the verge of running out of cash, but some haven't taken the news too well.
Ever since Marissa Mayer became CEO of Yahoo! news of the company snapping up several start ups have been littering tech news sources. The latest is that Yahoo have been in talks with Tumblr about acquiring the microblogging service. Apparently it all started when Mayer eyed up the blogging service around six weeks ago and has since "started an intense focus" on the company.
